Buddy Scholarship

The Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society would like to offer a scholarship for a graduating senior planning to attend college to pursue a career in special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy.  The NWIDSS recognizes the importance of special education teachers in our schools and is excited to offer this opportunity.

Scholarship Amount: $500 Application Deadline: April 15, 2019

Required Qualifications

  1. Must live in and attend a school in the Prairie Lakes AEA region.

  2. Must graduate this school year.

  3. Cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or higher.

  4. Must be accepted to a college and planning to pursue a career in special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy.  Applicant must include in their essay how they will serve the special needs population.

  5. Recipient should plan to attend our Annual Buddy Walk at date and location: TBA

Required Documentation

In addition to completing the online application below, the following items need to be emailed to nwiadownsyndromesociety@gmail.com:

  • Your high school transcript.

  • A letter of acceptance from the college or university you will be attending.

  • Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, minister, or community leader that you have known for over 2 years.  The recommendation should include how long the person has known you, in what capacity, and why they feel you would be an awesome special education teacher!
